No, not by 50g balls or 100g skeins, but by the weight or thickness of the yarn - fingering vs. worsted vs. super bulky, etc. Of course we realize that these classifications, while very helpful, are somewhat subjective. Some yarns can be successfully worked at such a wide range of gauges that they effectively fall into two or more categories. Some yarns are right on the cusp between two weights. Some weight classifications cover a relatively large range by definition. So how do we determine what tags a particular yarn will get?
